SOUTHERN BAPTISTS REAFFIRM COMMITMENT TO GREAT COMMISION, WORLD MISSIONS

ORLANDO, Fla. Southern Baptist Convention messengers meeting in Orlando, June 2010, easily adopted an amended version of the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force report. They also elected a new president, Bryant Wright.
Pastor Wright of Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, Georgia, endorses a strong commitment to missions. More than 1,500 members from his congregation went on 70 mission trips to 27 nations last year.
After his election, he said he wants to see every Southern Baptist pastor and church take at least one mission trip and experience what it's like to be in another culture, sharing the Gospel, according to Florida Baptist Witness.
Wright supported adopting recommendations brought by the Great Commission Resurgence Task Force to move the denomination toward fulfilling the Great Commission more faithfully and more effectively. The task force report, which was approved Tuesday, June 15, 2010 enhances and shifts more funding toward reaching the lost in North America and around the world.
The report states, "There is no way that Southern Baptists can make real progress toward reaching these unreached people groups unless we experience a genuine Great Commission Resurgence. We must see a tidal wave of evangelistic and missionary passion, or the numbers of unreached people groups will only grow, and lostness will spread."
MegaVoice hosted a booth at the SBC Pastors Conference where more than 10,000 pastors were in attendance. "We were very honored to be there for the historic moment when the Southern Baptists reaffirmed their commitment to taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth," said MegaVoice CEO, Charles Cibene. "MegaVoice came into being for that very purpose - to bring the Good News on audio to more than 3 billion people who cannot read. We very much resonate with the call to reach the whole world for Jesus Christ."
